Saint-Gobain: Detecting delamination at an early stage – and responding more quickly

Case Study – GreCon DELAMINATIONCONTROL F

  • 发布于 2026年十月7日

Saint-Gobain reduces the risk of claims through delamination detection

During production at Saint-Gobain, a specialist in drywall and plaster systems, delamination occurred within the panels. This led to quality deviations and additional inspection work. In future, deviations should be reliably detected so that production can react quickly and quality remains consistent. DELAMINATIONCONTROL F was developed to ensure robust in-line detection of delamination and to enable a rapid response in the event of deviations.

Since we started using the GreCon system, we have been able to detect anomalies caused by delamination much earlier in the process. This gives us the confidence to act quickly and identify quality deviations at an early stage, before they affect downstream processes.Process Engineer at Saint-Gobain

When internal splits affect product quality, prompt feedback from the production process is essential

At Saint-Gobain, a specialist in drywall and rendering systems, delamination* was occurring within the boards, which could lead to quality variations and additional testing requirements. The need for action became apparent in the area of board production and drying: in future, deviations needed to be reliably detected so that production could respond quickly and quality remained consistent.

* Delamination refers to internal cracks or separation of layers, which are not always visible from the outside.

Background: Quality deviations with cost implications

The delamination had a direct impact. The result: quality deviations and the resulting additional costs due to scrap, rework and customer complaints.

The project therefore focused on three areas:

  • Strengthen quality control
  • Optimise production
  • Reduce costs associated with complaints

Success criteria that are obvious in a project context: less waste, higher availability, greater process reliability, faster response times.

The solution: DELAMINATIONCONTROL F – installed after the drying oven

Saint-Gobain Rigips installed DELAMINATIONCONTROL F as an in-line detection solution – installation position: after the drying oven. The implementation was carried out on the basis of a specification agreed in advance with the measurement technology specialists at Fagus-GreCon.
How is DELAMINATIONCONTROL F integrated into the process?

  • Panel inspection via visualisation in the control room
  • Typical response within the process: marking, rejection, process control, system shutdown if necessary, and notification to Quality Assurance and the sawing control centre

How DELAMINATIONCONTROL works

DELAMINATIONCONTROL uses ultrasonic technology to detect delamination in the material – completely contact-free. The sensors detect material irregularities by transmitting sound waves through the material. The system is resistant to environmental influences such as draughts, temperature fluctuations or sheet movement. Calibration and recipe changes take place automatically.

DELAMINATIONCONTROL F – comprehensive real-time inspection

  • Up to 96 measurement channels – for full-surface coverage across all panel dimensions
  • Optionally available with EdgeControl – detection of delamination right up to the panel edge
  • Also suitable for small panels with a fine grid resolution (50 mm)
  • Ideal for parquet flooring, panels with varying formats or where high detection performance is required
  • Clear visualisation of defect patterns – directly during the process

What DELAMINATIONCONTROL F brings to Saint-Gobain Rigips

With DELAMINATIONCONTROL F, manufacturers gain a robust in-line detection system installed after the drying oven, enabling them to reliably detect delamination or internal splits and react swiftly to any deviations. This strengthens quality assurance during production and lays the foundations for a more targeted reduction in scrap and quality-related risks.

  • Reliable detection as the basis for consistent quality
  • Rapid response to deviations
  • Robust design for the production environment

The economic benefits are evident where they matter most: less waste and lower quality-related follow-up costs – provided that the impact can be measurably demonstrated in practice.
