In laboratory practice, time and reliable data are what count. BOARDCONTROL XL reduces waiting times and replaces error-prone manual measurement with automated precision. Using a combination of X-ray, laser and new width measurement technology, the system measures cut quality objectively and reliably. It detects fluctuations early on, documents them precisely and thus strengthens feedback into your production.

This means less effort, greater reliability and well-founded decisions based on reliable data.

As a contactless measuring system, BOARDCONTROL XL provides precise analyses of laboratory cuts – in the laboratory or directly on the production line. In a single, automated run, the system records thickness, basis weight, width and the calculated bulk density. The basis: laser optical triangulation, high-resolution X-ray technology and a new width measurement module. Moisture measurement can also be integrated as an option.

The result: objective data in less than a minute – without any sample preparation. BOARDCONTROL XL thus provides the basis for stable board quality, well-founded recipe approvals and targeted use of materials.

Measurement is stationary and contactless. The laboratory sections are placed in a sample frame and automatically guided through the measuring range. There is no need for time-consuming division or preparation.
 

  • Thickness measurement by triangulation: A laser scans the material surface and a camera records the reflection. The exact thickness is calculated from the angle offset.
  • Area weight measurement via X-ray: An X-ray source below the material and a sensor above it detect the specific radiation absorption.
  • Width measurement: Newly integrated module for precise measurement of the panel width.
  • Bulk density calculation: The bulk density is automatically derived from the area weight and thickness.

BOARDCONTROL XL reduces laboratory work, speeds up feedback to production and avoids variations due to operator influence. Accurate, graphically and numerically processed measurement results enable targeted intervention in the processes – for example, to reduce material usage or to ensure minimum quality standards.

 

New features include the travel strategy, which enables almost complete measurement of the panel length, and digital protocol transfer: measurement data is automatically stored on the customer's server – no more printouts are necessary.

In addition to the standard functions of measuring the weight per unit area and thickness of the laboratory sample, BOARDCONTROL XL can be supplemented with the following functions:

Moisture measurement

To determine the moisture content of the laboratory sample, BOARDCONTROL XL is expanded to include a non-contact microwave moisture measurement system. This has a fork sensor that enables the product moisture to be measured across the entire sample cross-section.

Spring-back measurement

Immediately after the hot press, the thickness behaviour of wood-based panels is still dynamic. The thickness of the laboratory cut changes as the temperature drops. Measuring and displaying this behaviour allows valuable conclusions to be drawn about the production parameters. BOARDCONTROL XL is equipped with a temperature sensor to measure this springback.
Thickness measurements of the same laboratory cut are now taken at freely selectable intervals. By simultaneously measuring the temperature curve, the behaviour of both values in relation to each other can be clearly and quickly displayed.
