Automated testing laboratory for wood-based materials

SYN WOOD PTM

SYN WOOD PTM performs transverse tensile and peel tests fully automatically in accordance with DIN EN 319 – around the clock, reproducible, simple.

Your added value with SYN WOOD PTM

  • Automatic laboratory testing
  • Reliable, comparable results
  • Faster decisions in the QA team
  • Less waste and RC losses

Automatic test results 7 days a week

The SYN Wood PTM System (panel testing machine) is used for both automated transverse tensile testing and automated lift-off strength testing of wood-based panels.

A major advantage is the repeatability of the tests. Unlike manual/semi-automatic testing, the amount of adhesive and the pattern, the curing time, the contact pressure and the centring are reproducible. It can be used 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The results can be transferred to production immediately. Operation is simple and can also be carried out by non-laboratory personnel. Thanks to increased production speed and reduced waste, the testing laboratory pays for itself after only a short time.

Advantages at a glance

  • Significant improvement in the repeatability of measurement results
  • Reduction in the amount of adhesive
  • The waste rate can be significantly reduced
  • Increased production speed

measurement method

Parts are handled within the system by a 6-axis robot equipped with a double gripper. This consists of a vacuum gripper and a parallel gripper. The vacuum gripper handles the test specimens and the parallel gripper handles the test yokes and assembled specimens.

Various aluminium yokes are required for the two possible destructive tests (cross-tensile test and lift-off strength test). These are automatically provided for the preparation of the samples by means of a separate feed belt with yoke separation and an optional yoke storage (lift-off resistance).

At the start of a test cycle, the operator manually places 1-10 pre-cut test specimens of the specified dimensions on the belt conveyor of the feed and cleaning station and selects a test combination. A control batch number is assigned to each test cycle, which is specified by the customer and transferred to the system via a data interface. All test results from the test cycle are transferred to the customer's data system with the test batch number.

Once automatic operation has started, the system works independently. All samples are separated and then cleaned of adhering sawdust and dust in the cleaning station using compressed air. They are then placed in the transfer position for the robot.
