What is GreCon FIBERVIEW?

Undissolved fibre bundles – known as shives – impair board quality and cause complaints. Manual sampling is slow, inaccurate and difficult to document. FIBERVIEW, on the other hand, provides continuous, objective measurement data directly on the production line – regardless of light, colour or environmental conditions.

It is a camera-based measuring system that records fibre quality directly on the production line. The camera identifies undissolved fibre bundles (shives) and uses them to calculate key values such as:

  • Shive area
  • Length and width
  • Slenderness ratio (length-to-width ratio)

Classification is automatic – supported by powerful evaluation software with visualised trends for the operator. Measurement is contactless with a resolution of 100 µm at speeds of up to 84 m/min. Each image takes only three seconds.

Optical inline fibre quality control

The camera-based GreCon FIBERVIEW inspection system precisely checks fibre quality in MDF board production by measuring the number and size of unwanted fibre bundles (shives). These undissolved structures are captured by camera images during the ongoing production process, enabling continuous monitoring of the scattering process and eliminating the need for time-consuming spot checks.

How do you optimise your defibration process for maximum efficiency?

 

With precise measurement technology that is integrated directly into the production process. GreCon FIBERVIEW uses state-of-the-art camera technology to continuously monitor fibre quality, providing valuable insights into the defibration process.

The fibre cake is inspected by a camera system behind the pre-press over a width of 400 mm. Thanks to the automatic height adjustment and light control of the camera and lighting unit, the measurement conditions remain constant – regardless of the plate type or environmental conditions. Undissolved fibre bundles (shives) are automatically detected and classified in three image processing steps.

The process runs continuously, typically every 3 seconds, during ongoing production. The system thus enables precise assessment of fibre quality and reliable surface inspection. This technology provides an objective evaluation of the defibration process for the first time.

GreCon FIBERVIEW provides the refiner operator with a powerful measurement technology tool for specifically adjusting energy consumption to the required fibre quality – for example, by adjusting the grinding disc spacing.
