Length in sight. Speed under control.

GreCon LENGTHCONTROL

Whether during production changeovers or quality checks: those who know the length and speed within their production flow precisely can control processes more reliably. LENGTHCONTROL measures both continuously and without contact using laser technology – ensuring dependable processes, reproducible quality, and greater efficiency in manufacturing.

Your benefits with GreCon LENGTHCONTROL

  • Inline measurement without material contact
  • Prevents overlong cuts – saves material
  • Optimal production control through real-time data
  • Consistent board quality even at high speeds
  • No operator influence – reproducible results
  • Easy integration into existing lines
  • Robust, low-maintenance, and process-reliable

Determine length and speed with laser measurements

Product length and feed speed directly influence quality, efficiency, and output. Especially with changing formats or high cycle rates, manual control is too imprecise and too slow. GreCon LENGTHCONTROL provides clarity – automated, reliable, and inline.

It is an inline measuring system for the continuous, non-contact detection of board length and conveying speed. Measurement is performed using laser technology based on the Doppler effect – independent of material colour, surface, or feed speed. A sensor detects the material as it passes and delivers millimetre-accurate real-time data directly to the control system.

The integrated visualisation software displays:

  • Absolute board lengths in mm
  • Feed speed in m/min
  • Quality factor for evaluating measurement accuracy
  • Statistical analysis and trend curves

LENGTHCONTROL in detail

The GreCon LENGTHCONTROL measuring system determines the length and speed of solid, soft, and moist materials using non-contact laser measurement. The primary focus of the system’s application lies in optimising documentation and control processes for our customers.

In addition, significant material cost savings can be achieved by reducing waste. For example, while an overly long board may still be acceptable to the end customer, it results in excessive material and production costs for the manufacturer. By measuring 100% of the board length, the cutting process of diagonal or dividing saws can be continuously monitored and adjusted. Precise graphical and numerical displays enable operators to intervene in time to ensure consistent board quality while optimising the use of material and energy.

Measurements can be taken right up to the edges of the material. Depending on requirements, length and speed determination can be applied to board-shaped products or even in continuous production. LENGTHCONTROL is particularly suitable for production lines with very high throughput speeds, limited installation space, or an unfavourable ratio of board length to acceleration.

LENGTHCONTROL uses double-beam interferometer technology for precise speed measurements.
The measured speed determines the length of the moving parts over time. A split laser beam is generated, which then crosses in space, creating two intersecting beams that interact with each other.

When the material passes through the measuring area, the light is scattered. This scattered light is captured by the measuring device and converted into electrical signals.
The frequency of the electrical signal contains information about the material’s speed. The signal processor converts these electrical signals into frequency data, which is directly proportional to the speed of the moving material.
