The Dutch pellet producer secures the extraction systems and coolers at the Moerdijk site with GreCon spark extinguishing systems. Consulting, installation and commissioning were carried out by the Supair Group Tilburg.

 

Energy Pellets Moerdijk BV – a subsidiary of the Labee Group

The company has been part of the Labee Group since 1991. In addition to pellets, the Labee Group also produces wood chips, wood fibres and even cat litter. The pellets are used as CO2-neutral fuel in power plants and heating systems at home and abroad.

Fire and explosion risks

The raw material is first crushed in hammer mills and then pneumatically transported to the pellet press. After the pellets have been pressed, it goes to the cooler. During this process, it cannot be ruled out that sparks or glowing particles are in the product stream. Possible consequences are fires or dust explosions.

 

Spark quenching for pellet production

To ensure safe production, the pellet press, cooler and transport lines are monitored with GreCon spark detectors. After detection, automatic extinguishing takes place by means of a finely atomised water mist.
