Spark extinguishing system including complete assembly for one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of wood-based materials

Pfleiderer Baruth relies on the complete assembly of the GreCon spark extinguishing system. Besides the assembly of the spark extinguishing system, the spark detectors and the automatic extinguishing systems, all other work to be done is taken over, as the laying of extinguishing water pipes and electrical lines, the installation of a trace heating system and the insulation of frost susceptible extinguishing water pipes. Besides the commissioning of the spark extinguishing system, Fagus-GreCon is able to carry out all ancillary tasks. This includes the installation of extinguishing water pipes, the installation of electrical lines, the installation of the trace heating system and the insulation of the extinguishing water pipes. The complete assembly by Fagus-GreCon is indispensible above all if an acceptance of the system according to VdS 2106 is necessary.

The processing of nonwoven holds many risks of fire and explosion

The danger of the complex production of hygiene products lies in the processing of finely processed fibers. The finely processed fiber is quickly flammable. If there are foreign bodies in the material, there is a risk of spark formation due to friction at numerous points. In addition to foreign bodies, there is a further risk of fire from moving parts of the system. In particular, the fans of the exhaust systems can be due to wear and friction origin of sparks and smoldering.

The GreCon spark extinguishing system identifies potential dangers with lightning speed and controls the automatic extinguishing system within only 300 milliseconds. Ignition sources are extinguished before a fire occurs.

Also Pfleiderer in Baruth took advantage of the service of the complete assembly. After an incident in January 2019 with two explosions in the area of the belt weigher, the production should restart quickly and especially safely. Already in February - only six weeks after the incident - boards could be produced again. A lot of know-how and manpower was necessary to start production that quickly. At peak times, 16 Fagus-Grecon technicians were on site to install and commission the spark extinguishing system professionally.

Sparks and glowing embers are extinguished with a fine water mist still within the pipe system. Alarm levels are used at Pfleiderer to maximise the production availability. Another safety measure is the safety shutdown.  Thereby it is ensured that the spark extinguishing system detects potential risks and extinguishes them during the dangerous start-up process. Pfleiderer Baruth is very satisfied with the GreCon spark extinguishing system and the service of the complete assembly.
