History and Key Milestones in the Timeline

The history of Fagus-GreCon is defined by a continuous culture of innovation, because “For us, innovation is tradition.” Since its foundation in 1911, the company has set benchmarks through groundbreaking inventions and developments – from the building itself to the successful history of the GreCon brand, which already celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024.

1911

Carl Benscheidt founded the company FAGUS and commissioned architect Walter Gropius to design his pioneering shoe last factory in Alfeld.

 

 

1925

Construction of the first FAGUS shoe last lathe and development of an independent manufacturing technology for shoe last production.

 

 

1970

Gerd and Ernst Greten, great-grandsons of founder Carl Benscheidt, founded the company GreCon, Greten Consulting.

 

 

1973

Development of the first GreCon thickness measuring system DMR – a milestone for automated quality control in board production.

 

 

1974

Development of the first industrial GreCon spark extinguishing system – a decisive step towards greater safety in the wood and board industry.

 

 

1987

Introduction of the first GreCon scanner for the automatic detection of surface defects in solid wood – an important advancement in quality assurance.

 

 

1998

Founding of the joint venture Grecon Dimter Wood Optimisation with competitor Dimter, a company of Weinig AG – for joint solutions in wood processing.

 

 

2005

Installation of the first X-ray scanner “DIEFFENSOR” for foreign object detection in particle mats – GreCon sets new standards in production monitoring.

 

 

2011

As an icon of industrial culture, the Fagus Factory in Alfeld is recognised internationally for its architectural, design and historical significance.

 

 

2018

Fagus-GreCon strengthens its international subsidiaries, promotes cross-location collaboration and establishes a more unified global corporate structure.

 

 

2024

Fagus GmbH is founded as an independent company – an important organisational step in the further development of the business.

 

 

TODAY

Fagus-GreCon is today a globally connected company with an international workforce, its own training structure and site responsibility in many markets.
