Revolutionising Edge Inspection

GreCon EDGEINSPECT

Uses geometry-based inspection to detect exactly where camera-based systems fail

Using state-of-the-art 3D laser technology, EDGEINSPECT detects even the smallest edge deviations in the hundredth-of-a-millimetre range – such as breakouts or open glue joints.

Your added value with GreCon EDGEINSPECT

  • Objective inspection of every component edge
  • Early detection and prevention of recurring defects
  • Unaffected by contamination
  • No ongoing maintenance effort during operation

Reliable detection using lasers

The GreCon EDGEINSPECT system uses compact laser sensors to enable reliable and precise detection of edge defects. They capture the edge geometry using laser triangulation, making even the smallest deviations measurable. The measurement principle is independent of the finish – colour, grain or surface texture do not affect the result.

Depending on the application, EDGEINSPECT operates with one or two compact laser sensors:

Single compact laser sensor

The compact laser sensor is positioned on the underside of the component and detects the edge up to the break. This method is used when the customer has defined only a visible edge as the inspection area.

  • Measuring range: From the underside across the edge.
  • Application: Ideal for components with only one defined visible edge.
  • Objective: Precise detection of chips, open glue joints or irregularities along the edge.

Two compact laser sensors

Here, two compact laser sensors operate simultaneously to inspect both the top and bottom surfaces of a component. This configuration enables the inspection of two visible edges.

  • Measuring range: Detection of potential defects on both edges of the component.
  • Application: For components with multiple visible edges, such as doors or furniture panels.
  • Objective: Complete detection of defects on the top and bottom surfaces to reduce complaints and rework.

Single laser compact sensor

Accurately detects the visible edge of a component – ideal for applications with only one defined inspection surface. Detects the edge geometry using laser triangulation, ensuring objective results without the need for pattern training.

Two compact laser sensors

Two sensors simultaneously check the top and bottom edges of the component – ensuring comprehensive inspection, less waste and less rework.

Edge monitoring during the production process

Camera-based systems reach their limits, particularly with coloured or textured surfaces, as they often struggle to distinguish between design features and genuine defects – and require constant manual readjustment by staff.

GreCon EDGEINSPECT goes one step further: our compact laser sensors measure the 3D edge geometry of your components with millimetre precision using laser triangulation – regardless of colour or texture. Instead of interpreting images, the system precisely analyses heights, depths and widths and delivers reliable results directly within the production process.

In addition, EDGEINSPECT determines geometric parameters on the component – such as edge overhang – thereby providing indications of faulty tool settings. This facilitates root cause analysis and helps to make targeted adjustments to the machine before minor deviations turn into scrap or customer complaints.

  • Furniture industry: Direct detection of serial defects and breakouts
  • Door frames: Detection of open glue joints or protrusions

Those who value quality require precise processes. With GreCon EDGEINSPECT, we are taking edge inspection to a new level – simpler, faster and more reliable. Instead of image interpretation, EDGEINSPECT provides genuine geometric analysis – regardless of decor, environment or product changes.

Before:

  • Visual or image-based inspection with room for interpretation
  • Training required for product changes
  • Sensitive to colouring, structure and environmental influences
  • Recognition often dependent on the operator
  • Risk of false negatives due to unclear image evaluation
  • Technically sophisticated systems requiring extensive training

After:

  • Clear, objective results through direct 3D geometry measurement
  • Ready for immediate use – no training processes necessary
  • Works independently of material, colour and pattern
  • Precise, repeatable results – regardless of experience
  • Reliably distinguishes between genuine defects and misleading protrusions (e.g. dust or glue residue)
  • Intuitive to use, easy to integrate – for greater efficiency in everyday use

Integration into your production

Furthermore, GreCon EDGEINSPECT is designed for any level of automation – from manual removal to fully automatic ejection. It is specifically integrated into your edge-processing machine and supports quality decisions right where they arise: during the ongoing process.

Depending on the production line configuration, the following scenarios are possible, amongst others:

  • Automatic ejection of defective parts
  • Automatic repair of certain defects
  • Error display during manual component removal (information at the removal station)
  • Indications of incorrect tool settings for targeted corrections
  • Installation width from 250 mm

This allows you to reduce scrap and rework – and prevent deviations from passing through as production defects.

Precise values. Perfect processes.

Manual interventions and complicated training phases because colours and surfaces are constantly changing? That's now a thing of the past! GreCon EDGEINSPECT delivers precise 3D measurements – regardless of colour, structure or decor. No readjustments, no pseudo errors, no interruptions.
