Siegfried Jacob Metallwerke in Ennepetal are specialising in the recovery of metals. The processes reach from classic sorting via hydrometallurgy up to pyrometallurgy. The high process temperatures represent a challenge regarding fire protection. The Westphalian company has been relying on the GreCon Spark Extinguishing System to protect filter systems against fire since 2001.

Our solution for Siegfried Jacob Metallwerke

In order to reliably exclude damage caused by fire, the filter system is protected by an automatic spark detection and extinguishing system. For spark detection, spark detectors FM 3/8 that are equipped with fibre optic cables that can be used in process temperatures of up to 600 °C are installed. In 2016, the control console was updated to the latest generation to allow further extensions.

Risks of fire and explosion

Especially in pyrometallurgical processes, there is a permanent risk of spark flight. Metallic residues are melted at high temperatures in four melting furnaces and processed to customer-specific alloys. There is a permanent risk that ignition sources reach the downstream filter system.
