MeisterWerke: Inline-Delamination Detection for Parquet Flooring

How GreCon UPU 6000 FS inspects multilayer parquet flooring across the full surface, detects hidden defects and automatically rejects faulty boards.

About MeisterWerke - quality, fully made in germany

More than 600 employees of MeisterWerke Schulte GmbH from Rüthen produce wood products such as parquet, LinDura, design and laminate floorings as well as wall and ceiling panels subject to the highest quality standards. Founded in 1930, the family-owned company from North Rhine-Westphalia continually develops its products and solutions to live up to its own standards. MeisterWerke puts its trust in strong partners among its suppliers and in specialist trade, as well as in its own employees, for this.

Robust & aesthetic: high demands to modern wood floorings

Laminated parquet, also called prefabricated parquet, can be made of two or three layers. Two-layered parquet has a wearing and a carrier layer. The surface layer is a sophisticated hardwood layer while the carrier layer is made of domestic softwood or plywood.

All parquet floorings from MeisterWerke have three layers. The boards comprise a sophisticated surface layer of hardwood and a carrier layer, as well as a spruce veneer layer on the reverse. The structures differ in that HDF or spruce can be used in the carrier layer.

Parquet production: finding defects early

The challenge in parquet production is securely finding defects caused by weaknesses in the natural raw material.  Unrecognised material defects in production of a high-quality multi-layered parquet may cause high subsequent costs for the end customer. A board that, once installed, turns out to be defective, can only be replaced with great effort.

Delamination between the prefabricated parquet layers must be recognised early to prevent subsequent costs from ever arising. Ideally, any defective material should be ejected from the production process.

Our solution for MeisterWerke

Early fault detection with ultrasonic technology

Fagus-GreCon has implemented a solution based on the GreCon UPU 6000 FS inline blow recognition for MeisterWerke that inspects parquet pressed with multiple layers for delamination. The GreCon solution is special in that it can test the entire surface of the parquet boards. On top of this, the system not only recognises defects, but also ejects defective parquet boards immediately. No manual intervention in the production process is required. Defective products are never delivered to the customer this way.

Inspecting the parquet boards also permits conclusions as to the raw material quality. Weaknesses in the primary products will not affect the end product this way.

Technical Details

  • The boards produced and inspected are 1200 x 140 to 2600 x 320 mm in size
  • Throughout is approx. 30 boards per minute, depending on product length
  • The production line has a feed rate of 82 metres per minute

Key Benefits at a glance

 What it means in production
Full-surface, non-contact inspectionEvery board is checked across the entire surface without interrupting the production flow.
Reliable measurement resultsThe system provides objective data instead of relying on visual checks or random sampling.
Early detection of hidden defectsDelamination and bonding defects are identified before faulty boards reach later process steps or the customer.
Basis for targeted rejectionThe measurement results enable the operator or line control to remove faulty boards from the process in good time.
Improved product qualityConsistent inline inspection helps reduce complaints and supports MeisterWerke’s high quality standards.

Conclusion

The GreCon solution for inline recognition of delamination prevents subsequent costs due to any product defects. Defective boards are securely recognised and ejected in time thanks to the early recognition by contact-free ultrasound technology. MeisterWerker finds this solution profitable. The GreCon solution based on the UPU 6000 FS allows further increase of the already-high product quality.
